Heartbleed Bug
Everyone is freaking out about the heartbleed bug. ... Everyone!
Here is why:
- There is a really good chance the password you are using right now to check your email, facebook or online banking is compromised.
- This bug has been around for 2 years and exploiting it doesn't leave a trace, That basically means that your creepy neighbor that always texts you hello as you pull into your drive way or that really weird dude in the coffee shop that forgot to put in his teeth this morning could have had access to your Social Security Number, Home Address, Credit Card Information and... Well you get the point.
What should i do?
First mentally prepare yourself, You are probably going to have to change your password that you have been since since you got AOL in 1996.
Take a deep breath - Now prepare yourself for the "hard part"
You should not use the same password for everything in your life....
I hope i dont need to explain why. I know what you are thinking, "Jeremie you are a level 77 computer wizard so its easy for you to remeber 11,745 passwords, I am but a mere human and more then 1 will slow me down"
While i would have agreed with you 3 years ago, I now have 2 children and am so sleep deprived i can barely remember what this blog post was about.
Which is why i use password managers to keep track of the hundreds of passwords that i use, I have the ability to use a different complex password for every site i use and i dont have to remember any of them, They are all just a click away.
I use Roboform its $10 a year and there is an app for your iPhone so you always have access to your passwords.
Before you change your password on a specific website i would suggest you click Here and test to make sure the site has been fixed. There is no point in giving the hackers your new password.
